WASH Services In Yemen To Receive Saudi Funding

The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief) and UNICEF have signed an agreement to provide drinking water to over 30,000 people in Yemen.

The agreement, worth $5 Million USD, is to be  implemented in the Yemeni governorates of Marib, Al-Jowf, Hajjah, and Saadah.

The programme aims to provide sources of drinking water in the neediest areas in Yemen. Funds will be directed to decrease incidence of water-borne disease arising from drinking polluted water. Additionally, new hygiene and sanitation services, health awareness and building capacity services will be included in the expenditure.

These Northwestern regions of Yemen have been on the receiving end of a large portion of 24.000 air raids since 2015 and as a result of the ongoing war, these areas are currently undergoing a serious water and food shortage. 

The project will rehabilitate 7 water resources and build 73 toilets in camps for internally displaced population.

KSrelief was founded in 2015 by King Salman bin Abdulaziz os Saudi Arabia who, in the same year, ordered a military intervention in Yemen to expel the Houthis who control the Northwestern region of Yemen.
