UN Targets Freshwater Bodies In Decade Of Ecosystem Restoration

UNEP's decade of ecosystem restoration is underway with a rallying cry to replant and protect forests, clean up rivers and seas and implement sweeping reformations of agriculture. Armed with reports identifying a $4.1 Trillion USD financing gap while promising a 30-fold return on investment, UNEP and the UNFAO call on the public and private sectors to massively scale up their efforts, while setting out mechanism to monitor and measure progress over the next 10 years. Freshwater is one of 8 major types of ecosystems suffering from dangerous levels of degradation.
